Kansas State Players React to Passing of Former Teammate Derick Newton

NCAA Football: Kansas State at West Virginia

Some shocking news came down in the last day for the Kansas State Wildcats, when it was announced that former player Derick Newton had passed away.

Newton was a defensive lineman who joined the Wildcats with the 2020 Signing Class. He had originally committed to K-State in 2018 but then attended Butler Community College. The 6-foot-2, 280-pounder had entered the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this month.

No official cause of death has been made public yet.

The outpouring on social media came swiftly from many Kansas State players.

Through two games with the Wildcats this season, Newton logged one tackle and one quarterback-hurry. He leaves behind one son and one daughter.

Kansas State travels to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers this weekend.
