Iowa State Basketball: 2020-21 Schedule Analysis
Today Heartland College Sports breaks down the 2020-21 Iowa State Cyclones basketball schedule.
Season opener: The Cyclones will open the regular season a bit later than everyone else, as they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 29.
Tournaments: The Cyclones will not play in any tournaments this season.
The Big 12/Big East Game: Iowa State will host DePaul on Dec. 6. That means transfer Jalen Coleman-Lands will get to play his former team.
The Big 12/SEC Game: The Cyclones will travel to Mississippi State for the Big 12-SEC Challenge on Jan. 30. The Cyclones have never played Mississippi State in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
The Big Non-Con: I guess it’s Mississippi State, even though we’ve covered that game. They’re the only Power 5 opponent on Iowa State’s schedule, outside the Big 12.
Mid-Major Danger: The South Dakota State Jackrabbits won 22 games last season and finished in a tie for the top spot in the Summit League.
Big 12 Opener: The Cyclones open the Big 12 season at home against Kansas State on Dec. 15.
The ‘Big’ Big 12 stretch: The Cyclones face a tough stretch beginning Jan. 16 with a road game at Kansas. After that the Cyclones host Texas, travel to Texas Tech, host Oklahoma State and hosts West Virginia. That stretch could have a lot to do with where the Cyclones are seeded in the Big 12 Tournament.
