Sam Ehlinger Might Have Just Sealed Tom Herman’s Fate at Texas with this Quote

NCAA Football: Texas Orange-White Spring Game

Before the Big 12 season started, the media predicted a Red River match up in the Big 12 Championship Game. But after Iowa State’s comeback win over Texas on Friday, the Longhorns fell to 4-3 in Big 12 play and are out of the conference title picture.

The question around Austin now appears to be, “What’s the future for Tom Herman?”

Well if you ask star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who is leaving the program after the season, he didn’t leave the public with a ringing endorsement for his head coach.

Sam Ehlinger is a smart dude. He doesn’t say things without a purpose. He’s always been mature beyond his years since he stepped foot on campus.

And this is the kind of comment that certainly raises eyebrows around the program.

Ehlinger was the best quarterback to play for Texas since the Colt McCoy era and it will end without a conference title. This despite a plethora of four and five-star talent all around him and on both sides of the ball.

Herman made his coordinator changes this season and that did not make enough of a difference to get Texas over the hump in 2020. Yes, the pandemic has changed the coaching carousel, but at Texas, the money is always flowing and if there is actually interest from Urban Meyer, than watch out.

After the Iowa State loss, several major media members shared their opinions, and the resounding theme seemed to be Herman will need some help to save his job at Texas.

And now, the waiting game in Austin begins.
