Tom Herman to Return as Texas Longhorns Coach in 2021

NCAA Football: Texas Bowl-Texas vs Missouri

After weeks of speculation around Urban Meyer possibly coming to Texas, the Longhorns are set to bring back Tom Herman in 2021.

Texas Longhorns AD Chris Del Conte released a statement where he said, “I want to reiterate Tom Herman is our coach.” Del Conte went on to say, “When I look at our football program right now, I see tremendous young men and promising talent. Our student-athletes are developing, and they play their hearts out. This has been an unprecedented year for all of us, and we’re disappointed we didn’t meet our expectations… There’s still more work to be done, but I’m excited to watch our players and program move forward.

It was later confirmed by Kirk Bohls of the Austin-American Statesman that Herman is definitely coming back.

After Texas lost to Iowa State on Thanksgiving Weekend, the Urban Meyer rumors really started picking up steam. But then the Longhorns went to Manhattan and blasted Kansas State 69-31 and things seemed to die down. It helped that repots came down that week that said Urban Meyer had chosen to not return to coaching.

Tom Herman has recruited three-straight Top 10 classes for Texas, but he hasn’t won a Big 12 Title in his four seasons and is 1-4 against Oklahoma.

The Longhorns were supposed to be taking on the Kansas Jayhawks this weekend, but the game was cancelled due to COVID issues with at Texas. So now the Longhorns await a possible bowl game, while the program knows that Tom Herman is the leader of the program, at least for the 2021 season.
