AP Poll: Iowa State Moves Up to No. 8, Oklahoma at No. 12
The latest edition of the AP Poll features the two most important Big 12 teams moving up at the right time. The Iowa State Cyclones are now ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll, while the Oklahoma Sooners come in at No. 12.
For the Cyclones, that’s two places better than last week, and for Oklahoma, this is one place better than last week. Also in the Big 12, the idle Texas Longhorns moved up two places to No. 21. And Oklahoma State, after ripping Baylor 42-3 on Saturday, just missed the Top 25, racking up the most points without being ranked.
The Big 12 got help thanks to LSU, who beat Florida on a late field goal, and UNC, who beat Miami. Both Florida and Miami were ranked in the Top 10 last week. This could now open the door for the Big 12 Conference making the College Football Playoff, which would make either Iowa State or Oklahoma as the first two-loss team to make a Playoff since its inception.

The other good news for the Big 12 Conference is that the College Football Playoff committee has apparently respected the Big 12 more than the AP Poll voters. Iowa State was ranked No. 7 last week and Oklahoma was No. 11. Both teams should be in the Top 10 this week ahead of this week’s Big 12 Championship game, which is set for 11:00 a.m. on ABC.
