Texas Longhorns pass rusher Joseph Ossai announced he is skipping the bowl game and his senior season to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.
Ossai made the announcement official on Twitter on Monday morning.
Ossai has been a force on the Texas defense the last three seasons. He played in all 36 games with 24 starts, and piled up 165 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles and two interceptions.
His coming out party took place at the end of the 2018 season, when Texas upset Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and Ossai racked up eight tackles. It was a sign of things to come in 2019, when he led the team in tackles (90), tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (5). Osaai had 54 tackles and five sacks this season for the Longhorns, who finished 7-3 and are awaiting a bowl game selection.
Although believe it or not, the Longhorns could still, theoretically play in the Big 12 Championship Game this weekend. If either the Sooners or Cyclones can’t play in the game due to COVID-19, then the next team in the standings would be inserted into the conference championship game. Longshot, sure. But heck, it’s 2020 after all.
