West Virginia Mountaineers head coach Neal Brown is going to interview with the Auburn Tigers, according to Auburn Undercover of 247Sports.
The Auburn Tigers have been looking for a new head coach since firing Gus Malzahn earlier this month. The other candidate now in the conversation is UAB’s Bill Clark.
Neal Brown just completed his second season with the West Virginia Mountaineers, where they improved to 5-4 on the season and had one of the best defenses in the Big 12 Conference. In Year One, West Virginia went 5-7 after taking over for Dana Holgorsen.
Brown has ties to the state of Alabama, as he was the head coach at Troy from 2015 to 2018 and led the Trojans to a 35-16 record, one Sun Belt title and wins at LSU and Nebraska. Prior to that, he spent time in the SEC at Kentucky from 2013 to 2014.
Others set to interview with Auburn include Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, Louisiana head coach Billy Napier and Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott has declined an interview with the Tigers.
