The Oklahoma Sooners are losing running back T.J. Pledger to the NCAA transfer portal.
Pledger made the announcement on Twitter on Monday.
Pledger is a former four-star recruit from California. He began the season as the starting running back, but his snaps dwindled as the season went along. He had 68 carries the first four games of the season, but then had 27 carries the last five games of the season, including just one carry in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Pledger was actually starting to hit his stride in October. In OU’s win over Texas on October 10th, he piled up 155 total yards and two touchdowns. The next week, against TCU, he had 122 yards and a touchdown. However since the return of Rhamondre Stevenson following a suspension dating back to last season, Pledger hasn’t received more than seven carries in a game.
Pledger finished 2020 with 451 yards and five touchdowns.
The Sooners finished the season with a 27-21 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in the Big 12 Championship Game and are set to take on the Florida Gators in the Cotton Bowl next week. The game kicks off on Wednesday, December 30th at 7:00 p.m. CST.
