Oklahoma QB Tanner Mordecai Transferring to SMU

It looks like a former Big 12 quarterback could continue the trend as SMU quarterback in 2021. Oklahoma QB Tanner Mordecai announced on Twitter he would be transferring to the SMU Mustangs.
Mordecai has, unfortunately for him, had to sit behind Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts and Spencer Rattler the last three seasons. He was a former four-star recruit from Waco, Texas, who was the No. 11 dual-threat QB in the country, according to 247Sports.
For the last two seasons, former Texas QB Shane Buechele has helped the Mustangs turn around the program, along with head coach Sonny Dykes. SMU went 10-3 last season before going 7-3 in 2020.
Mordecai was a redshirt sophomore this season and will have three years of eligibility remaining because of the NCAA’s waiver that allowed all players to compete this season without it counting against them.
Meantime, the Sooners are coming off a win in the Big 12 Championship Game over the Iowa State Cyclones last Saturday and are now gearing up to face the Florida Gators in the Cotton Bowl next Wednesday night.
