After a very solid first season in Ames, Iowa State defensive tackle Latrell Bankston announced it will be his only season with the Cyclones and that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.
Bankston confirmed the news on Twitter.
It’s not clear the reason for Bankston’s departure considering how important of a role he played with the Cyclones, according to Wide Right Natty Light, “early speculation is that he could be headed to Auburn to join new Tigers coach Bryan Harsin, whom offered Latrell a scholarship to Boise State while in JUCO.”
In 2020, Bankston was named an Honorable Mention Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, while racking up 3.5 sacks. Bankston was stuck behind Enyi Uwazurike and Josh Bailey, and they each could return with an extra year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA’s new rule due to COVID-19 and its impact on the 2020 season.
Iowa State is coming off a loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game and is now gearing up for the Fiesta Bowl next week when it takes on the Oregon Ducks on Saturday afternoon.
