247Sports Names Kansas State RB Deuce Vaughn College Football’s True Freshman of the Year

With the 2020 college football season over for the majority of the sport, 247Sports released its True Freshman All-American team on Wednesday and it was Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn who was named the top freshman in the country.
247Sports wrote about Vaughn, “It was difficult to choose a top freshman performer given this superb field, but the award went to Kansas State running back and walking playmaker Deuce Vaughn.”
The previous winners included Derek Stingley (2019), Rondale Moore (2018), Jonathan Taylor (2017), Ed Oliver (2016) and Calvin Ridley (2015). That’s certainly an impressive list for Vaughn to join.
As for the team, there were other Big 12 faces who made the cut, including Texas running back Bijan Robinson, who had himself another huge game against Colorado in Tuesday night’s Alamo Bowl. Also, while not a Big 12 player, former Texas commit Ty Jordan, who played for Utah and tragically died last week, was also listed.
Oklahoma wide receiver Marvin Mims was named to 247Sports’ Freshman All-American team as well. Mims led the Sooners with 36 catches, 583 yards and eight touchdowns. And on the offensive line, West Virginia’s Zach Frazier made the cut.
Defensively, TCU’s Khari Coleman earned the slot at edge rusher. He finished sixth nationally and first in the Big 12 with 15 tackles for loss in nine games. And then for Kansas, defensive back Karon Prunty made the list as well, finishing his season with 26 tackles, nine passes defended and an interception.
