Oklahoma State to Welcome Back Three Key Players in 2021

Mike Gundy

After capping off the 2020 season with a Cheez-It Bowl victory over Miami, Oklahoma State fans also can celebrate the news that several valuable seniors have opted to take advantage of their free season of eligibility.

Safety Tre Sterling, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and receiver Tay Martin all revealed they would be returning for the 2021 season, and I predict that more will make an announcement soon.

Rodriguez made the 2020 All-Big 12 second team, while Sterling was an All-Big 12 honorable mention, although it could be argued that Tre deserved to be on the first or second team. Martin played a limited role this season, but with the departure of Tylan Wallace and Dillon Stoner (the team’s two leading receivers), he will most likely see more action in 2021.

Among those whose decision I am most interested in are linebackers Amen Ogbongbemiga and Calvin Bundage, tackle Josh Sills and receiver Dee Anderson. Ogbongbemiga and Bundage are both NFL-level talents that could use an extra year to raise their draft stock, while Sills could do the same with a more structurally sound offensive line around him. The fan-favorite tackle has already expressed in tweets that he will not make a decision until the season is over, so I suspect an announcement will come in the following weeks.

Anderson is someone I’ve harped on all season about getting more PT. Not every college head coach can say they have a 6-foot-6 five-star wide receiver at their disposal, and it seems that Mike Gundy either wasted his talent or truly thought other guys were better than him.

No matter what happens or who stays or who doesn’t, these next few weeks are going to be of much interest for Cowboy fans.
