The Kansas State Wildcats kicked off 2021 on a high note as Sterling Lockett, brother of Tyler and son of Kevin, committed to the football program as part of the Class of 2022.
Lockett said in a statement on Twitter, “I would like to thank all of the coaches and staff at Kansas State who recruited me and welcomed me to come be a part of their program. With that being said, I am extremely proud and excited to announce I will be committing to Kansas State University.”
Like his brother, Sterling is a wide receiver. He picked Kansas State over offers from Nebraska, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
Lockett is a local product at Blue Valley HS in the Kansas City Metro. As a sophmore, he had 535 receiving yards with two touchdowns. This past season Lockett added 193 more and three additional scores as a junior in 2020 in the run-first offense. Also like his brother, he’s a standout return man averaging over 17.5 yards per return, according to GoPowercat.
According to 247Sports, Lockett is rated as a three-star recruit. However when you go back and look at Tyler Lockett’s 247Sports recruiting profile, he was also an unheralded three-star prospect, and look at how that worked out.
Kansas State is sure hoping that Sterling Lockett’s career will have a similar trajectory.
