West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Austin Kendall is leaving Morgantown after reports came down that he had entered the NCAA transfer portal.
For Kendall, if he ultimately does decide to transfer, it will be his third program in four seasons. He began his career as a four-star prospect with the Oklahoma Sooners, but then Kendall transferred to West Virginia in January of 2019. Last season, he won the starting job and played in nine games as the team’s starter. He Kendall threw for for 1,989 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
This season, he lost his starting job to Jarret Doege and played sparingly throughout 2020. But he came in in relief of Doege in the Liberty Bowl and led the Mountaineers to a 24-21 win over the Army Black Knights.
West Virginia returns Jarret Doege for the 2021 season and the program also has Garrett Greene, a three-star prospect from Florida, who just wrapped up his true freshman season in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers haven’t had great production out of the position since Will Grier left following the 2018 season.
