The Oklahoma Sooners were hopeful to get Ronnie Perkins back, but their star defensive end announced Saturday he’s declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Ronnie Perkins made the announcement on Twitter, saying in part, “Coach Riley, thank you for giving me the opportunity to play for such a prestigious program. You have stood by me during my toughest times and I thank you! … With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft!”
This news comes just days after star running back Rhamondre Stevenson also announced he would not return in 2021 and declare for the NFL Draft.
Both players were instrumental in the Sooners rolling through the second half of the season, winning the Big 12 and then dominating Florida in the Cotton Bowl.
Perkins returned for the second half of the season after serving a suspension dating back to last year, and had 5.5 sacks and 23 tackles. For his career, which includes three seasons from 2018 to 2020, Perkins had 98 tackles and 16.5 sacks.
The Oklahoma Sooners are still poised to be the favorite in the Big 12 in 2021, along with the Iowa State Cyclones. Spencer Rattler leads the team back as QB and he already the Heisman Trophy favorite.
