The Texas Longhorns and West Virginia Mountaineers tipped off another loaded Saturday of Big 12 basketball and in typical Big 12 fashion, this Top-15 match up came down to the wire.
The Longhorns were trailing in the Mountaineers in the final seconds and Courtney Ramey took the ball down the court, drove left and found a wide open Andrew Jones on the right wing, who drained the game-winning three-pointer for the No. 4 Texas Longhorns to pull off a hard-fought 72-70 win on the road.
Here’s the video.
For Jones, it gives him 1,000 points for his career. Plus, this is the kind of sports tidbit that makes you feel good: Saturday is three years to the day that Texas head coach Shaka Smart had to tell the team that Jones had Leukemia.
Jones finished second on the team to Ramey with 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting. As a team, Texas was barely 20% from three-point range, but connected on 46% from the floor.
The Texas Longhorns are now 4-0 in Big 12 play and 10-1 on the season. They have a few days off before another Top 25 match up on Wednesday when they play host to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Austin.
