Oklahoma State will not get back one of its stud defensive players for the 2021 season. On Saturday, Amen Ogbongbemiga announced he would declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.
On Twitter, Ogbongbemiga wrote in part, “Ultimately, I feel it is time for me to begin a new journey and with my trust in God, along with my personal dedication, family and unwavering community of supporters, I will be able to continue to thrive. I’ll be forgoing by last year of eligibility to pursue my lifelong dream of playing in the NFL.”
Ogbongbemiga finished the 2020 season with 80 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Last season he had 100 tackles, 5 sacks and one forced fumble.
He was one of the top players on one of the best defenses in the Big 12 Conference and was one of 10 returning starters on this Oklahoma State Cowboys defense.
The Associated Press named him a Second-Team All-Big 12 selection following his 2020 campaign. Ogbongbemiga could have returned for the 2021 season after the NCAA gave all players an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19.
