Some sports fans and talking heads still think the Big 12 is stuck in 2014, playing no defense and only offense. That hasn’t been the case the past 2-3 seasons and it keeps getting more balanced in the conference. Oh, and the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
Pro Football Focus released its highest-graded cornerbacks in coverage for the 2020 college football season and two Big 12 cornerbacks landed in the Top 4. They were TCU’s Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson at No. 1 and Texas Tech’s Zech McPhearson at No. 4.

TCU finished the 2020 season with the fourth-ranked defense in the Big 12 in total defense and points allowed behind West Virginia, Oklahoma and Iowa State, while Texas Tech ranked 9th in points allowed and total defense.
At Heartland College Sports we also had both guys as First-Team All-Big 12 selections for the 2020 season. Zech McPhearson has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, while Hodges-Tomlinson just finished his sophomore season in Fort Worth.
