Mac McClung, Cade Cunningham Earn Big 12 Player of Week Honors
Guards Mac McClung of Texas Tech and Cade Cunningham of Oklahoma State were named the Big 12 Player of the Week and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for Jan. 18, respectively.
McClung and Cunningham were key participants in two of the biggest wins of last week in the Big 12 Conference

“ ”McClung hit the game-winning shot against Texas as the Red Raiders handed the Longhorns their first Big 12 loss of the season, 79-77. The Red Raiders also won their first game this season against a Top 25 team. McClung scored 22 points in that game, and then followed that with a 24-point outburst in the Red Raiders’ loss to Baylor, 68-60. Still, McClung averaged 23 points for the week, connected on a half-dozen 3-pointers and is the Big 12’s scoring leader at 19.7 points per game (conference games only).
Cunningham helped fuel Oklahoma State’s 75-70 win over then-No. 6 Kansas last Tuesday. The win saw the Cowboys lost a 16-point lead, only to rally to take the win. Cunningham had a great overall, game with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. He also hit three 3-pointers. Cunningham is the Big 12’s leading scorer, including non-conference games, at 17.8 points per game.
This is the third time this season that Cunningham has been named the league’s Newcomer of the Week.
