Pro Football Focus Hoses Iowa State in Top 101 Players From 2020

We have all heard of Pro Football Focus. Some love it and swear by it while others hate it or think it’s a bit rigged. Me? I probably fall somewhere in the middle but when PFF came out with their Top 101 players from the 2020 college football season I had to take a look and share with you.
Here are all the Big 12 players that made the cut according to Pro Football Focus.
#13 Oklahoma LB Nik Bonitto
#14 TCU CB Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson
#15 Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler
#24 West Virginia Safety Tykee Smith
#33 Texas OT Samuel Cosmi
#40 Oklahoma State OT Teven Jenkins
#63 Oklahoma State WR Tylan Wallace
#65 Oklahoma State CB Rodarius Williams
#67 Oklahoma C Creed Humphrey
#74 Oklahoma DT Isaiah Thomas
#75 Oklahoma DE Ronnie Perkins
#94 Oklahoma WR Marvin Mims
While it was nice to see Big 12 players make the cut there are a few things that make me scratch my head. For starters, there are ZERO Iowa State players on this list yet nine Cyclones made the first team All-Big 12. I mean for crying out loud the nation’s leading rusher Breece Hall isn’t even in the top 101? And no Charlie Kolar or Mike Rose? Give me a break.
I know Buffalo had a good year, but for the Bulls to have six players on this list is criminal when there is not a single Iowa State player on the list. And by the way, Buffalo’s six players tie with Oklahoma who also has six players on the list. Heck, the Sooners should have seven because defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey belongs on this list too.
There are a few others such as Kansas State’s Wyatt Hubert, Texas linebacker Joseph Ossai or West Virginia’s Tony Fields II who could have made the cut, but there was something interesting I saw: PFF ranked the top NFL prospects at each position and the top two safeties they had listed were TCU’s Trevon Moehrig and Ar’Darius Washington. And guess what? Neither player made the top 101.
I understand PFF grades their own way by their own rules, but sometimes that can complicate things. To me, they missed the boat and it isn’t the first or last time this will happen. But it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that they had some obvious snubs here. Hopefully they will clean those glasses off and get a closer look next time while making this list.
