Texas Beats Out Oklahoma for Four-Star DE David Abiara

NCAA Football: Texas at Texas Tech

Just over two months since David Abiara decommitted from Notre Dame, he has chosen to play his college football for the Texas Longhorns.

Abiara is listed as a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star by Rivals and 247Sports. The strong side defensive end is from Mansfield, Texas and is listed by ESPN as the 227th-ranked player in the country and is a Top 40 player in Texas, along with a Top 30 player at his position.

Abiara was always considered a Texas lean, but Oklahoma appeared to be in the running, along with SMU. When he decommitted from Notre Dame, Rivals reported there were a couple of things at play, reporting, “Abiara’s communication with the Irish staff had cooled over time and then it looked like Notre Dame and the Texas prospect had started to rebuild the relationship. Then there were reports that Abiara is facing legal issues after being charged with criminal trespassing over the fall. That situation – along with Abiara still looking at other schools – could have been the impetus for the parting of ways in recent days.”

Steve Sarkisian has done a solid job down the home stretch and is already ahead of the game for the Class of 2022, landing the No. 2 running back in the nation this week.

According to 247Sports, Texas has a Top 20 class for the Class of 2021.
