247Sports Puts Oklahoma, Iowa State in Updated Preseason Top 6

A new updated 247Sports 2021 preseason college football ranking has two Big 12 teams in the Top 6.
While Alabama held it’s No. 1 spot, the Oklahoma Sooners also held steady at No. 2. On the Sooners, 247Sports wrote:
“The Sooners looked quite explosive in bowl season, and return star Spencer Rattler at quarterback with Heisman Trophy hopes. Oklahoma no longer has any first-place votes in the 247Sports rankings, but remains highly placed. Since the season ended, Oklahoma welcomed in the Big 12’s top recruiting class and No. 11 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Oklahoma also found success in the transfer portal, including a trio of four-star prospects from Tennessee.“
The Sooners were followed by Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia. And then at No. 6, moving up a spot, are the Iowa State Cyclones. On the Cyclones, 247Sports wrote:
“The Cyclones rise one spot in the rankings with Matt Campbell’s return in spite of more interest from NFL franchises and college vacancies. And just yesterday, Iowa State announced a massive extension for its head coach. Since a 3-9 Year 1 with Campbell, Iowa State has four-straight winning seasons, two bowl victories and a 32-19 record. That includes a Fiesta Bowl win last month over Oregon behind 136 yards and two touchdowns from Breece Hall. Iowa State will finish with its highest AP ranking in school history tomorrow. Iowa State’s recruiting class ranked eighth in the Big 12 and 59th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite.“
Also in the Top 25 from the Big 12 were the Texas Longhorns at No. 20 and Oklahoma State Cowboys at No. 24.
But clearly, the Big 12 Conference is going to be viewed at as a two-horse race going into next season between the Oklahoma Sooners and Iowa State Cyclones. And both these programs are also going to have College Football Playoff expectations as well.
