The Baylor Bears are reportedly set to lose cornerbacks coach Brian Stewart.
According to Bruce Feldman, Stewart is expected to become the new defensive coordinator at Maryland. He has previously been an assistant in the NFL and college ranks. In the NFL, he spent time with the Texans, Lions, Cowboys, Chargers and Eagles. And at the college level he has been a defensive coordinator at Rice, Houston and Maryland.
While Baylor only went 2-7 in Big 12 play last season, the defense came on as the season went along. The Bears finished second in the Big 12 in passing yards allowed per game, while ranking third in Big 12 pass defense efficiency. The Bears held the Oklahoma Sooners to 27 points late in the season, which was tied for the fewest points scored by OU during the 2020 season.
Best of luck to Brian Stewart and no one can blame him for taking a Power 5 coordinator job. But it does leave Dave Aranda having to fill a position on his staff this offseason.
