Cade Cunningham, Jared Butler Named Finalists for Top Point Guard Award

NCAA Basketball: West Virginia at Oklahoma State

Baylor’s Jared Butler and Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham have been named finalists for the candidates for the 2021 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday.

The Bob Cousy Award is given to the nation’s best point guard.

Butler enters this week averaging 17 points per game this season for the No. 2 team in the nation. He is also averaging 3.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and is shooting nearly 50 percent from the field.

The Bears return to the floor this week with three games, including a matchup with No. 10 West Virginia, on Thursday. The Bears have been off since Feb. 2 due to a COVID-19 pause and severe winter storms in Texas last week.

Butler is on the list for both major national player of the year awards, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award.

Cunningham is considered one of the best freshmen in the nation. Entering this week he is averaging 18.6 points per game, along with 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 block per game.

Cunningham is also on both the Naismith and Wooden watch lists.

The winner of the 2021 Bob Cousy Award will be presented April 9.
