After Viral Bar Fight, OU’s Spencer Jones ‘Lucky He Didn’t Lose His Eye’

After a bar fight at an off-campus OU bar, Sooners football player Spencer Jones is lucky he didn’t lose his eye, according to his doctor who handled the surgery.
In a conversation with The OU Daily, Jones’ family attorney Woody Glass said, “Dr. Brooks came out of that surgery saying he’s extraordinarily lucky at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether. And so he was able to do some things surgically to rebuild that orbital socket and thinks everything is eventually going to come back to normal, but it’s going to take a while for him to fully recover.”
According to the report, Jones was held from surgery until the swelling around his eye receded, Glass said. Dr. Perry Brooks of Norman performed a four-hour outpatient operation last Tuesday, February 16th, where he rebuilt Jones’ left orbital socket.
Glass said a police investigation into the matter is ongoing, but he could not provide any further details.
Spencer Jones is from Nashville and played one season at Liberty before transferring to Oklahoma. The video begins with Jones telling the guy he’s about to fight to “Get the f*** out of here,” before the perpetrator wiped blood from his face on Jones and initiated his attack.
Jones’ attorney went on to insist, “He was trying to de-escalate that situation. But unfortunately, it wasn’t de-escalated despite his best efforts, and he became the victim of this vicious assault you’ve seen.”
