NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-South Regional Practice

Seven Big 12 teams remained among the projected 68-team field in the latest’s ‘Bracketology’, released after the conclusion of the Big 12 regular season on Sunday.

The Big 12 Tournament begins on Wednesday in Kansas City, with Baylor set as the No. 1 seed.

The Bears were the only No. 1 seed from the Big 12 in Jerry Palm’s latest Bracketology field. Right now Palm has the Bears projected as the No. 2 overall seed in the Hinkle 2 Region. The Bears first-round opponent would be either Cleveland State or Prairie View A&M.

West Virginia remained a No. 2 seed in Palm’s eyes, even after a week in which WVU beat TCU, but lost to Baylor and Oklahoma State. In Palm’s field, the Mountaineers would play No. 15-seeded Morehead State in the first round in the Bankers Life 2 Region.

Texas, which enjoyed a great week in which it beat Iowa State, Oklahoma, and TCU, solidified itself as a No. 3 seed in Palm’s eyes. The Longhorns are currently in the Hinkle 1 Region where Palm projects a first-round matchup with South Dakota State.

Oklahoma State, which beat West Virginia without Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele, remained a firm No. 4 seed in the Bankers Life 1 Region where it would face a No. 13-seeded Liberty in the first round. Liberty has clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas, despite flirting with disaster against UTEP last week, remained a No. 4 seed in Palm’s field, with the Jayhawks drawing a spot in the Bankers Life 2 Region and a first-round game with No. 13 seeded UNC-Greensboro.

Texas Tech, which defeated Iowa State and TCU before falling to Baylor on Sunday, remained a No. 5 seed in the Hinkle 2 Region. Palm has the Red Raiders waiting on an opponent from a First Four game between Boise State and Drake.

Oklahoma had a rough week, losing to both Oklahoma State and Texas. Palm moved the Sooners into the No. 8 seed in the Hinkle 1 Region, where it would face a first-round matchup with Wisconsin. That has the potential to set the Sooners up with a second-round game against No. 1 Gonzaga.
