Patrick Mahomes daughter has been alive for less than a month, but Texas Tech is hoping that in 18 years her dad (and mom) will have passed on their athletic genes.
Mahomes and his fiancée Brittany Matthews welcomed their first child February 20th, and already Sterling Skye Mahomes received a letter of intent to play soccer at Texas Tech two days later.
Yes, Texas Tech offered a baby who won’t be eligible to commit until 2039.
According to KLTV, this is nothing new for Texas Tech, as these letters are often sent to newborns, including the children of faculty and “intended to be cute gesture(s).”
So maybe this was just meant for good will or as a joke? But based on the gene pool, I’m sure the Red Raiders wouldn’t say no to locking up a recruit this early.
Patrick Mahomes is coming off a second-straight trip to the Super Bowl this past season. And leading up to the most recent big game, Texas Tech athletics continues to represent to their best abilities from Lubbock.
Mahomes racked up 93 touchdown passes in three years as the Red Raiders’ starter, leaving Lubbock with the third-most passing yards in school history. However, Texas Tech went just 16–21 in Mahomes’s three years with the program.
And we shouldn’t discount his Brittany Matthews’ athletic ability. During his college soccer career at UT Tyler, she scored 31 goals and 16 assists in four seasons and she won all-region honors after her senior year. Matthews left the program in 2017 ranked second in program history in points and goals.
