Kansas Fires Athletic Director Jeff Long

Less than 48 hours after the University of Kansas announced the departure of head football coach Miles, Jeff Long has also been fired as athletic director, according to multiple reports.

Long was hired by Kansas in July 2018 to specifically help turn around the football program. He let go of former head coach David Beaty and hired Les Miles later that year. Long was the athletic director at Arkansas prior to his time with the Jayhawks. He and Les Miles have been friends for decades, working together during their days at Michigan in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It has long been reported that Miles almost came to Arkansas to work for Long in 2012 before he agreed to a new contract with LSU in 2013.

Long told Dennis Dodd at CBS Sports, “I’m pretty upset, but I know how the world works. I’m just sick because I tried to do everything the right way with high ethics and morals and doing the right thing for young people. That’s the only thing that disappoints me.”

It’s been a wild two weeks for Kansas athletics. Miles was put on leave last week after a report came out from his time in Baton Rouge. In that report, it stated that Les Miles was accused of texting female students, taking them to his condo alone, making them feel uncomfortable and, on at least one occasion, kissing a student and suggesting they go to a hotel after telling her he could help her career.

Now, the Kansas Jayhawks have to start from scratch with a new athletic director and a new head football coach. If they’re looking for some suggestions on who to hire as the head coach at KU, we’ve got them for the University higher ups right here.

The Kansas football job was already the hardest job at the Power 5 level. But amazingly, it just got even harder.
