Kansas Names Emmett Jones Interim Football Head Coach
The University of Kansas has named wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Emmett Jones as its interim head coach.
Jones replaces Les Miles, who “mutually parted ways” with the program on Monday night. Les Miles was put on leave last week after a report came out from his time in Baton Rouge. In that report, it stated that Les Miles was accused of texting female students, taking them to his condo alone, making them feel uncomfortable and, on at least one occasion, kissing a student and suggesting they go to a hotel after telling her he could help her career. Then one day later, the program let go athletic director Jeff Long.
Jones will be entering his third season with the team. His ties run deep to Texas, as he played at Texas Tech in the 1990’s coached in the high school ranks, before spending some time with the Red Raiders before joining the Jayhawks.
“Chancellor Girod and I discussed what was in the best interest of our student-athletes, and we came to the conclusion that Emmett Jones is the best man to fill the role of interim head coach,” Interim Director of Athletics Kurt Watson said in a statement. “This afternoon, I met with the four individuals we considered for this role including Emmett, D.J. Eliot, Joshua Eargle and Mike DeBord, as well as our entire coaching staff and team to inform them of this decision.”
Jones helped Kansas sign seven players from Kansas in the Class of 2021, which was the best class the program has signed in 10 years.
