Seven Big 12 Games College GameDay Might Visit in 2021

2020 robbed us college football fans of a lot of things. Certain matchups, packed stadiums and of course the Saturday morning tradition of College Gameday (One of few things ESPN does right). While the program was still on the air, it wasn’t quite the same as there was an empty feel to it. There were no screaming fans all boozed up screaming their heads off. Instead, we had just video feeds of fans cheering at home.
While some may not mind that, it didn’t have the same feel for me and as we get closer to football season, everyone is hoping things go back to normal sooner rather than later. So, let’s hope we can get those famous GameDay crowds back and try and get them to come to Big 12 venues. Last season, College Gameday only went to one Big 12 venue when they came to Norman, Oklahoma for Bedlam. But could we see Gameday visit the Big 12 even more this year? Let’s look at the 2021 Big 12 football schedule to see which games could see Gameday come to town. Keep in mind, they must be big-time games.
September 11th: Iowa at Iowa State
I know it is not a true Big 12 game but I had to throw in this one. GameDay made the trip back in 2019 but they need to make the trip back to Ames for this one. Is this the year, Iowa State beats Iowa? Plus, College “Ames” Day has a nice ring to it.
October 2nd: Oklahoma at Kansas State
While I have never been to Manhattan, Kanas I already know that the folks up there love Kansas State as they have a great, passionate fan base. And how about the storylines for this matchup? Kansas State has beaten Oklahoma two years in a row. Can the Wildcats keep the streak alive, or will the Sooners get their revenge?
October 9th: Oklahoma vs Texas (Dallas)
I don’t think I need to get into why this matchup is important but any time these two programs square off in the Cotton Bowl, it is one of those games you can’t miss, and is always a possibility for the show. The history of this game itself is enough but it will be interesting to see Steve Sarkisian and Lincoln Riley coach against each other.
October 16th: Oklahoma State at Texas
This will be a huge game as it will likely determine how the Big 12 will shake out. If Texas loses the week before to Oklahoma, this could bury their hopes of a Big 12 title. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State will have back-to-back road tests to see if they are a conference title contender or not.
October 23rd: Oklahoma State at Iowa State
If the Cowboy take care of business in Austin, we could possibly be looking at two undefeated teams squaring off in Ames with Big 12 title implications. I know Iowa State will be good, but the schedule sets up nicely for the Cowboys up to this point as well.
November 20th: Iowa State at Oklahoma
Out of all the games on this list, this one may have the best shot at getting an actual visit from College GameDay. We all know these are the two favorites to be playing in Jerry World for the conference championship and this will likely be a preview of that game.
November 27th: Oklahoma at Oklahoma State
I know it’s Bedlam week, but I am not sure what Oklahoma State will look like by this time. But it is still one of the best rivalry games in the Big 12 and for that alone, this game makes the list.
