Bob Huggins became just the sixth head coach in college basketball history to reach 900 career wins on Friday night. It was the first round of the NCAA Tournament as the Mountaineers beat Morehead State 84-67.
However, as WVU gets ready for the second round, the continuing bromance between Huggins and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy appears to be reaching a fever pitch.
Back in November, Huggins invited Portnoy to Morgantown for a game. As far as we know, that never ended up happening.
But now with the NCAA Tournament exclusively in the Indianapolis area, while Portnoy and the Barstool crew is in Chicago for the weekend, Huggins is inviting Portnoy to WVU’s second round game against Syracuse on Sunday.
The entire back and forth on Twitter started when Portnoy congratulated Huggins on win No. 900.
Dave Portnoy isn’t the kind of guy to back down to a challenge, which Huggs started by basically calling him out and claiming he’s not going to come to Indianapolis to watch the Mountaineers on Sunday.
Looks like it’s now Portnoy’s move. By the way, if he turns down Huggs’ offer, how many WVU fans will take his spot and get to Indianapolis by 4:15 Sunday? I think we can find a couple.
