Iowa State’s Rasir Bolton Submits His Name to Transfer Portal
Iowa State guard Rasir Bolton has reportedly submitted his name to the transfer portal, one month after letting Cyclones fans know he intended to stay via Twitter.
Bolton, who was the Cyclones’ leading scorer last season, posted to Twitter on Tuesday, letting Cyclone fans know that he was planning to graduate this May and thanking them for their support during his two years in Ames.
Bolton didn’t indicate that he was transferring in his post. But, shortly after, VerbalCommits.com had a report that Bolton had submitted his name to the transfer portal.
CycloneAlert.com also reported the news via its site.
Right after the Big 12 Tournament ended, Bolton took to Twitter to thank Cyclone fans for their support and his tweet appeared to indicate that he expected to remain in Ames.
Since that tweet, Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard fired Steve Prohm as head coach and hired T.J. Otzelberger, who has been busy assembling his staff and signing two transfers to the program.
Bolton submitting his name to the transfer portal doesn’t mean he has to leave Iowa State. He could choose to return after assessing his options. He is the fourth Cyclone to submit his name to the transfer portal, following Tyler Harris, Darlinstone Dubar, and Dudley Blackwell.
But, Bolton would be coming back to a team that is in rebuilding mode under Otzelberger after a 2-22 season and an 0-18 record in Big 12 action. Pollard admitted that the program would likely undergo a “multi-year” rebuild under Otzelberger.
Bolton finished the season averaging 15.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He missed a couple of games late in the season due to an injury, but he came off the bench against Oklahoma in the Big 12 Tournament and scored 18 points, along with grabbing three rebounds and dishing out four assists.
