NCAA D-I sports recruiting calendar to resume June 1

NCAA Womens Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Albany Regional-UCLA vs Connecticut

The NCAA took another step toward post-COVID normalcy on Thursday, approving the resumption of a normal recruiting calendar for all sports starting June 1, per a report from ESPN.com.

Since March 13, 2020, all NCAA sports have been in a ‘dead’ period when it comes to the traditional in-person recruiting that coaches in all sports are used to.

Men’s basketball will see the immediate benefit, as a quiet period will start on June 1 that includes in-person visits on campus and an evaluation period. Women’s basketball will get the same window for in-person visits and evaluation period, the latter of which is between July 6-12.

The NCAA is going to allow unofficial visits during football camps that occur in June and July. More specific to FBS programs like the Big 12, they will have a quiet period for in-person on-campus visits from June 1-27. Recruiting then does dead from June 28-July 24, before a short quiet period from July 25-31.

The NCAA did change the cadence for recruiting phone calls starting in January of 2022. Coaches will now be allowed to call juniors beginning the Sunday after the American Football Coaches Association Convention, with only an official dead period in February. During the spring coaches can make one call per week to recruits.

The NCAA also made the official announcement that the one-time transfer rule would be official and be implemented in September. The NCAA Division I Council voted on Wednesday to approve the measure, but needed an additional day to work out the calendar. Transfers for fall and winter sports will now be required to declare their transfer by May 1, while spring athletes must do so by July 1.

The rule allows a transfer to be immediately eligible at their new school. It only applies to their first transfer.
