Former Texas QB Sam Ehlinger might have a second childhood dream come true.
Ehlinger finished off an incredible career with the Longhorns, which was his goal as a young boy growing up in the Austin area. Well could another one of those boyhood dreams come true?
In an interview last week with 105.3 The Fan’s Shan And RJ, Ehlinger revealed that, among his meetings, he has met with the Dallas Cowboys.
Ehlinger said he didn’t meet directly with owner Jerry Jones and added, “It was some coaches, and it went really well. Just being in the Texas area, growing up in Texas, it was kind of a surreal moment for me, being able to meet with coaches from the Cowboys. And obviously, I know that they’re a Super Bowl-caliber team, and it was a really cool moment for me to be able to meet with them and it was awesome.”
Ehlinger said the feedback he got included, “And then from a ‘getting better’ standpoint, it’s accuracy down the field, timing, anticipation, sometimes, getting the ball out and that’s really it. They’ve been very positive, the feedback’s been great and it’s been an awesome process so far.”
No Texas fan will argue with the accuracy downfield comment. However, Ehlinger undoubtedly has the leadership and on-field vision needed to make it at the next level.
In his final season in Austin, Ehlinger was named All-Big 12 Second Team by the league’s coaches after throwing for 2,406 yards and 25 touchdowns to five interceptions. He also rushed for 382 yards and eight touchdowns. For his career at Texas, Ehlinger threw for 11,436 yards, 94 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. He completed 62.5 percent of his passes. On the ground, he also rushed for 1,903 yards and 33 touchdowns.
The 2021 NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday, April 29th.
