As reports continue to surface as to who will be the next Kansas head football coach, there is one name we know that is not getting the job: Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko.
Elko has reportedly made the decision to stay with Texas A&M according to SEC insider Matt Zenitz of AL.com.
Elko has been a member of Jimbo Fisher’s A&M staff since the 2018 season. Last season, Texas A&M’s defense allowed only 21.7 points per game. That figured ranked third in the SEC behind only Alabama and Georgia.
The Kansas Jayhawks have been without a head football coach for weeks since letting Les Miles go following the recent resurfacing his conduct as the head coach at LSU.
The two names that appear to have the most traction right now is Buffalo’s Lance Leipold and Army’s Jeff Monken.
When the HCS staff put together its picks for who Kansas should hire, Jeff Monken’s name did make the list, citing his triple option attack as one that would give KU a unique look that other Big 12 teams would not be used to, and would allow them to pull off more upsets against stacked competition.
