Report: Seven Buffalo Assistants Expected to Join Kansas Staff

NCAA Football: Kansas at Baylor

The Kansas Jayhawks have their new head football coach in Lance Leipold. He comes by way of the Buffalo Bulls. And a new report from Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel says that Leipold is expected to bring a lot of his staff from Buffalo to Lawrence.

Leipold will replace Les Miles, who was fired in March following accusations of inappropriate behavior toward female students during his head-coaching tenure at LSU.

Leipold went 37-33 in six seasons as Buffalo coach, leading the Bulls to the MAC title game in 2018 and 2020 and picking up bowl wins each of the past two seasons. Also this past season, he helped lead the Bulls to the school’s first-ever national ranking this season Army coach Jeff Monken was also considered a finalist for the job.

We hope that Leipold does bring back interim head coach Emmett Jones, who deserves to maintain a spot on the staff as he brought in a bunch of the new recruits, especially those from Texas.

Whoever ends up joining Leipold is in for the biggest rebuild attempt in the last 35 years in college football. Kansas is coming off a winless season and has lost 13 consecutive games dating back to October of 2019.
