Could Former LSU QB T.J. Finley End Up at Texas?

Earlier this week LSU quarterback T.J. Finley entered the transfer portal. He started five games for the Tigers as a freshman in 2020. He passed for 941 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions, as LSU went 2-3 during the stretch.
However this year it looks like he’s fallen behind in the QB race with Myles Brennan and Max Johnson, so Finley announced he would be leaving LSU and would visit other schools before making a decision. Well could the Texas Longhorns be a fit?
As Saturday Down South notes, there are already reasons to believe that Finley is at least very interested in Austin. Just check out who he’s started following on social media.
Now a lot of this would be determined by how exactly new head coach Steve Sarkisian feels about his two quarterbacks battling it out in Casey Thompson and Hudson Card. Thompson has waited patiently and shown impressive flashes, like in last year’s Alamo Bowl, while Card is a highly-touted local recruit. However neither are really Sarkisian’s guys, so if he feels like neither fits his style, he may want to bring in another player like Finley. Or, if he wants to roll with Thompson, who appears to be the front runner, but knows he’s fragile as a runner and isn’t in love with Card, Finley could be an option 1A.
Also of note, Finley could theoretically sit a year and then have 3 years of eligibility to work with Sarkisian, who is obviously highly regarded after the magic he worked with the Alabama offense last season.
Finley was a three-star prospect coming out of Louisiana, according to 247Sports. He was the 18th-ranked pro-style QB prospect in the country and 35th-ranked player in Louisiana.
