Kansas Loses Defensive Stud Marcus Harris to Transfer Portal

The Kansas Jayhawks are losing one of their young bright players. On Wednesday, defensive stalwart Marcus Harris’ name was in the transfer portal.
Harris was the star of the front seven of the KU defense in 2020, racking up 27 tackles and posted a team-best 7.5 tackles for loss. He also forced and recovered one fumble in eight games of action.
Marcus Harris came in as part of Les Miles‘ first recruiting class in 2019. He was ranked as the No. 101-overall strong-side defensive end in the class per the 247Sports staff rankings and had offers from Washington State, Liberty, Troy and Tulane.
Harris is from Montgomery, Alabama, and while Les Miles was let go weeks ago, the defensive end possibly decided to wait to see what direction the Jayhawks took with their coaching search.
KU ended up hiring Lance Leipold from Buffalo, where he went 37-33 in six seasons as Buffalo coach, leading the Bulls to the MAC title game in 2018 and 2020 and picking up bowl wins each of the past two seasons.
Prior to Buffalo, Leipold has won plenty across the Midwest. He won six Division IIII national titles as the head coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he went 109-6 as a head coach.
Kansas is coming off a winless season and has lost 13 consecutive games dating back to October of 2019.
