Well folks, Pro Football Focus strikes again! I have said many times here that I have a love/hate relationship with PFF. Sometimes they have excellent in-depth stats that make your eyebrows raise and sometimes they overthink things with their metrics they use by overlooking the obvious. On Tuesday, they overlooked the obvious in a way that I am not sure anyone can explain.
Pro Football Focus decided to tweet out their top five returning running backs in college football. Here is their tweet they put out.
While I am happy to see two Big 12 running backs on the list, Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn and Oklahoma’s Kennedy Brooks, the two they chose are quite interesting to say the least. I would say that they must have had a complete brain fart for not including Breece Hall and maybe even forget about him, but they did not because not too long after their top five tweet they posted this.
Iowa State’s Breece Hall was the nation’s leading rusher in 2020 as he was the only player in college football to rush for over 1,500 yards last season. Plus, the man had 21 rushing touchdowns. How in the hell is he not even in the top five?
No disrespect to Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn and Oklahoma’s Kennedy Brooks, but they aren’t even the top two running backs in the Big 12 in my mind because I would put Texas running back Bijan Robinson ahead of both of them along with Breece Hall.
I am not even saying Bijan necessarily should be a lock to be in this top five but to leave out the nation’s leading rusher in 2020 and the Big 12 offensive player of the year is flat out embarrassing. C’mon PFF, you can do better than this garbage and I think Breece Hall would agree with me. In fact, on Monday he tweeted out his true thoughts about PFF before deleting his tweet saying “I think I need to block all PFF accounts. They are just disrespectful at this point. It’s cool though I love that energy.”
