Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard Calls Out Des Moines Register

Iowa State has spent most of its existence being considered the “little brother” in their own state to Iowa. However, if anything is going to change that, the combination of Jamie Pollard and Matt Campbell just might do the trick.
We’ve seen the successes of Iowa State athletics under Pollard, with the football program under Matt Campbell leading the way. The Cyclones are likely to be a preseason Top 10 team in 2021, while other sports are having success as well.
Iowa State softball just clinched an NCAA Regional berth for the first time in 31 years. Meantime on the track, Iowa State’s Wesley Kiptoo became the first male in Big 12 history to ever win three individual events at a single outdoor championships (3,000 steeplechase, 5,000m and 10,000m run).
However, the Des Moines Register didn’t feel like these accomplishments were worthy of being headline news and Jamie Pollard called them out on Monday morning on Twitter.
Online @DMRegister sports this AM. No mention of @CycloneSB (or UNI) or ISU track – instead Iowa track, baseball & softball plus ISU dropping baseball 20 years ago. Confirms why I cancelled the Register. Insulting to ISU and UNI softball players. pic.twitter.com/DlnEQEZlQ8

It sure does feel like Pollard was born to be the Iowa State athletic director. In previous times, an Iowa State AD might be annoyed privately, but would not want to upset the biggest newspaper in the state and might even be afraid to say something publicly.
Not Jamie Pollard.
And not only was he not afraid to say something, he outwardly admitted he no longer has a subscription to the paper! We absolutely love it.
It’s also why so much of legacy media is becoming a joke. It’s how this Big 12 digital media outlet started, as I saw the national bias for the SEC and Big Ten happening and not getting any better. And it’s how great outlets like Cyclone Fanatic came to be as well.
As if his standing couldn’t improve any more with Cyclone Nation, based on social media reaction, it appears as if he did.
And speaking of Cyclone Fanatic, check out our podcast from last week with their owner Chris Williams! Listen below and leave us a rating and a review on the podcast on iTunes, send me a screenshot to [email protected] and we will send you a free Heartland College Sports koozie in the mail!
