Welcome to the Wild West otherwise known as name, image and likeness now being able to get monetized by college athletes. Thursday was the first day where collegiate athletes were allowed to put some coin in their pocket by using their name, image, and likeness.
Some players are getting sponsored by companies and products as others have decided to go in a different direction. Meet the app called Cameo where athletes and celebrities will give personal shout outs for a cost.
Texas is obviously a big brand and when star running back Bijan Robinson created his account, the requests came flying in. For the cost of one-hundred dollars, you could get your own shout out from Bijan himself in a video message. But what if it wasn’t Texas fan paying for a shout out? An Oklahoma fan decided to pay Bijan to sing Boomer Sooner.
To my surprise, Bijan accepted the request, but it didn’t quite end the way the Oklahoma fan wanted it to as you can see here.
I thought this was great and it was a good laugh I think we could all get behind, plus it was able to put some money in the pocket of Bijan Robinson. Welcome to 2021 folks and I for one am happy to see these athletes finally get some money by using their own names. While Thursday was just the tip of the iceberg, I am sure we will see plenty of crazy things overt the next few months leading up to the start of the season.
