Four-Star Cornerback Jacolby Spells Commits to West Virginia

NCAA Football: Kansas State at West Virginia

The West Virginia Mountaineers landed one of their most impressive recruits during the Neal Brown era when four-star cornerback Jacolby Spells announced on CBSHQ that he would be committing to WVU.

Spells is ranked as the nation’s No. 27 cornerback and is a Top 300 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is also considered one of the fastest recruits in the state of Florida having broke 10.8 in the 100-meter dash on the track.

Neal Brown’s staff landed the Fort Lauderdale, FL native over Miami and Indiana.

“I picked West Virginia because when I went up there I felt all family vibes,” Spells told 247Sports. “It’s a great place and a great town. I built a great relationship with all of the coaches and I got a lot of trust in them coaches. Especially Coach [Travis] Trickett and Coach [ShaDon] Brown. I trust them a lot and I feel like they can develop me and get me to the next level.”

Spells is now the highest-ranked recruit in WVU’s 2022 class and becomes their 11th commitment. This moves the Mountaineers into the No. 5 spot in the Big 12 for 2022 class rankings and moves WVU into the Top 40 nationally at No. 39.
