Texas Tech Picks Up First Four-Star Prospect of 2022 Class in ATH Maurion Horn

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have picked up their top commitment thus far in the Class of 2022 in ATH Maurion Horn. Horn is from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Tech beat out a ton of top schools, including many in the Big 12, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Baylor and others.

 

Horn is ranked and rated as an athlete because he was recruited at several positions, but at Broken Arrow, he played running back and receiver. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 11 athlete in the nation and the No. 4 player in Oklahoma. Tech recruited him primarily as a running back.

Horn racked up 2,079 yards and nine touchdowns on 123 rushes in 2020, while also catching 16 balls for 235 yards and three touchdowns.

The Texas Tech class now has six commitments for 2022, with all six coming in the last few weeks. The class is currently ranked 61st in the nation and 8th in the Big 12 Conference. Matt Wells continues to try and build up the program as he enters Year 3 in the job.

Wells is 8-14 as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and 5-13 in Big 12 play the last two seasons, finishing 9th and 8th, respectively, in the conference in 2019 and 2020.
