This is the sixth-straight preseason Oklahoma has been selected by the Big 12 media to win the conference and the ninth time since 2011. The Sooners have a Big 12-best 14 league championships.
OU picked up 35 of 39 first-place votes and racked up 386 total points. Iowa State, which returns a ton of key starters and played in the Big 12 title game, earned four first-place votes and finished in a solid second place with 351 total points. After that, it was the Texas Longhorns coming in third place with 273 total points as they enter a new era with head coach Steve Sarkisian. Oklahoma State and TCU rounded out the top five in the media poll.
The bottom half of the Big 12 media poll started with West Virginia, where there was a significant drop off from five to six, followed by Kansas State, Baylor, Texas Tech and Kansas.
Whoever ends up as the top two teams in the Big 12 Conference this season will meet at the Big 12 Championship game at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, December 4th in Arlington, Texas.
