You know the college football season is getting closer when we can start getting some spreads for games early in the season. And for the Big 12, which has a decent Week 1 slate, we are starting to get some lines for a handful of their games.
Here’s what we’ve got so far:
Stanford at Kansas State (-2)
Note: The game is at a neutral site…AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Oklahoma (-21) at Tulane
West Virginia (-4½) at Maryland
Louisiana at Texas (-14½)
Texas Tech (-7) at Houston
Note: The game is at a neutral site…NRG Stadium, Houston, TX
Baylor (-10) at Texas State
It’s a good start for the conference that it is favored in everyone of its Week 1 games. The games missing include lower-level competition, such as Iowa State vs. Northern Iowa, Kansas vs. South Dakota, TCU vs. Duquesne and Oklahoma State vs. Missouri State.
My initial thoughts on these spreads are: Baylor -10 feels like a good bet. Texas Tech and Texas feel like they’re too heavy of favorites considering some of their question marks and given the competition. WVU and Oklahoma I am on the fence on, while I would love for K-State to pick up that solid Power 5 win at Jerry World to start the season. Power 5 wins are always important for conferences and as I’ve been saying for years, every Big 12 fan should root for every other Big 12 team in non-conference games.
