Arterio Morris has reportedly committed to play basketball for the Texas Longhorns, giving Chris Beard his first commitment for the Class of 2022.
Morris’ commitment was first reported by 247Sports.com. His commitment is non-binding. The earliest Morris can sign a letter-of-intent to join the Longhorns is November.
His commitment comes on the heels of the commitment by former Minnesota guard Marcus Carr, who on Saturday announced he would join the Longhorns as a transfer for the 2021-22 season. Carr averaged 19.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists for the Golden Gophers last season.

Morris’ commitment, and future signing, would be a critical get for Texas for the 2022-23 season. Right now, Texas head coach Chris Beard has been mining the transfer portal this offseason for some great talent to bring to Texas.
Three Longhorn guards — Carr, Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey — all figure to move on to the NBA next year. While Jones didn’t declare for the 2021 NBA Draft, Carr and Ramey did, but chose to return to college basketball.
Those potential departures could open the door for immediate playing time for the five-star recruit.
Morris, who attends iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy in Lewisville, Texas, was considering a host of high-major programs, including Kentucky, Georgia, Kansas and Oregon.
Texas is coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament last March, one that ended with a loss in the first round to Abilene Christian. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament for the first time. But, it wasn’t enough to prevent Shaka Smart from changing jobs, as he departed for Marquette. Texas hired Beard away from Texas Tech to replace him.
