Brock Purdy Leads Four ISU Players on Walter Camp Watch List

Brock Purdy led four Iowa State players named to the 2021 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List on Friday.
The watch list revealed the 35 players under consideration for the Walter Camp Award, which is given to the nation’s best player regardless of position. Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith won the award last year.
Purdy led the Cyclones to one of their best seasons in history, winning nine games and ending up at the top of the Big 12 standings in the regular season. Despite losing to OU in the Big 12 title game, the Cyclones went on to defeat Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. In most preseason polls the Cyclones are in the Top 10.

The other Cyclones were:
Running back Breece Hall, who was Iowa State’s first unanimous All-American last year;
Tight end Charlie Kolar, who is considered among the best tight ends in college football;
And linebacker Mike Rose, the defending Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler also made the list. Rattler led the Sooners to the Big 12 Championship last year, despite losing back-to-back games early in the season to Kansas State and Iowa State. After winning the Big 12 title, the Sooners went on to drum Florida in the Cotton Bowl. In many preseason polls, the Sooners are considered a Top 5 team this year.
Also named to the list was Texas running back Bijan Robinson.
