Oklahoma Leads Big 12 With College Football Playoff Odds

The Big 12 Conference is expected to be top heavy with the Oklahoma Sooners and Iowa State Cyclones the favorite to reach the Big 12 Championship Game this season. It would be the second-straight year the two teams will have met in the game and the first time we’ve back a re-match in back-to-back games since the Big 12 brought back the conference championship game in 2017.
But both programs also have aspirations of winning a National Championship. And the latest odds show the Sooners with the third-best odds in the nation, tied with Ohio State, and behind Alabama and Clemson, at 5/1 odds to win the College Football Playoff. This ranks OU well ahead of Texas and Iowa State, who are both listed at 30/1 odds to win the College Football Playoff.
The Sooners return the Heisman Trophy frontrunner in QB Spencer Rattler, and most of the defense, which has drastically improved under Alex Grinch. Especially now that the Sooners are leaving for the SEC, and we aren’t sure when that might happen, this could be OU’s best chance at a National Championship, as that road will only get harder in the new-look 16-team SEC.
The Sooners have dominated the Big 12, winning six-straight conference championships, and while a seventh would be nice, this program is looking at things much bigger in 2021. But one thing that they can’t do this fall is take their foot off the pedal, as they’re likely to get 110% from every Big 12 opponent this season thanks to their move to the SEC. Not that opponents really needed extra motivation when playing OU, but they just got it.
