David McCormack Cleared For Basketball Activities: Report

NCAA Basketball: Baylor at Kansas

Kansas forward David McCormack has been cleared for basketball-related activities, as reported by CBSSports.com’s Jon Rothstein.

Rothstein, who also works for CollegeHoopsToday.com, noted that the report came via a conversation with Kansas head coach Bill Self.

McCormack represents one of four returning starters for the Jayhawks, who lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

McCormack was named the Big 12’s Most Improved Player last season and was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection. He blossomed into one of the conference’s best inside players, especially during Big 12 play.

McCormack set a career-high in scoring, averaging 13.4 points per game, along with grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game. He was the Big 12’s leader in field-goal percentage, shooting 51.5 percent. In the NCAA Tournament, McCormack had a big game against Eastern Washington, scoring 20 of his 22 points in the second half of the Jayhawks’ first-round win over the Eagles.

McCormack enters this season as a senior, but has two years of eligibility remaining, with the additional year offered to all players due to COVID-19 waivers.

Along with McCormack, the Jayhawks return Ochai Agbaji, Jalen Wilson and Christian Braun, all of which started last year. Agbaji and Wilson both flirted with the NBA Draft, but retained their eligibility and chose to return.

Kansas lost five players to transfer portal, but took in several transfers that could make an immediate impact, including former Iowa State guard Jalen Coleman-Lands, who will play his seventh year of college basketball in 2021-22 after serving as the Cyclones’ second-leading scorer (14.3 ppg) a season ago.

Former Arizona State guard Remy Martin joins the program after leading the Pac-12 with 19.1 points per game last season. He’s a three-time All-Pac-12 selection. Guard Joseph Yesufu also joins the program after averaging 12.8 points per game for Drake last season.
