Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders to Miss Missouri State Game Due to COVID-19 Protocols

NCAA Football: Baylor at Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State gets set to open the season on Saturday night against Missouri State, but they’ll be without their starting QB Spencer Sanders, who will miss the game due to COVID-19 protocols.

This was reported by the Oklahoma State radio broadcast. Shane Illingworth will start in his place.

The good news is that whoever is starting should be able to lead the Pokes to a victory over Missouri State, but it’s still a missed opportunity for Sanders, who was hoping to get off to a hot start in Year 3 on the job.

As a freshman, Sanders threw 16 touchdowns with 11 interceptions while completing 62.8% of his passes. Last season, he tossed 14 touchdowns to 8 interceptions.

Illingworth started a couple of games in 2020 in place of Sanders when he was down with an injury. He finished the 2020 season with 554 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

Oklahoma State and Missouri State kick off at 6 p.m. CST.
